Parents as Partners
We recognise that parents are children's first and most enduring educators. Successful relationships with parents and educators can have long-lasting and beneficial effects on children's learning and well-being.
At Westwood we do this through:
- Open evenings and transition open evenings.
- Encouraging parent engagement with Tapestry.
- Offering Stay and Play sessions.
- Inviting parents in to celebrate special events such as World Book Day etc.
- Inviting parents in to watch class teaching to share approaches to phonics, reading, maths and how children learn through play.
- Offering parents ELS Phonics Activity packs to support Phonics at home.
- Supporting parents with reading at home.
- Sending Weekly Parent Information sheets to support parents with learning at home and encourage the use of new vocabulary at home.
- Home Learning Menu's.
- Sharing Topic MTP with parents.
- Sending regular updates of weekly class learning on schools social media sites.
- Open door policy during soft starts in the morning, to have conversations at drop off and pick-up.
- Parent support with trips, enrichment opportunities etc.
- Parents Evening.
- Written end of year reports.
