Time & Tide fun for Year 3 & 4!

Reception had a fantastic parent share to finish the Spring term! All the children and parents got stuck right into finding all the eggs for the Easter egg hunt. Afterwards, the children really enjoyed exploring the woods with their parents. They enjoyed going to the bear cave, going over the wobbly bridge and (the fan favourite) going down the mud slide!

🌟 Reception Bowls Club 🌟 Over the last five weeks, our reception children have been busy learning and practising their bowls skills. Today they finished the cub with our very first Bowls Competition, and they played with such confidence and excitement. 🎉 And the winner wasssss… Isabel! 🏆 Well bowled! A big well done to all the children. You have tried so hard, supported your friends and made our bowls club a real highlight each week. 💚✨

What a wonderful last week we have had in Snowdrop class, learning all about the Stone, Bronze and Iron age, having an immersive experience on our trip! We have also created our torches that we designed with a functioning circuit, some children even challenged themselves to make a switch using split pins and a paper clip! We have also had a competition within tag football and walked to the Church. Within computing, the children have made their own games and showcased them to each other. We hope you have a lovely Easter break, and we will see you in Summer term 1, Miss Bullard and Mrs Layzell!

🤩Well done to this week’s Actives! 🤩 They’ve all worked incredibly hard and have been fantastic role models within our school community. We are so proud of all the children’s learning across the school this term. It has been especially lovely to see everyone enjoying the school field again after our playtime revolution! The children have been playing creatively, collaboratively, and with much enthusiasm. Let's hope for no more snow when we return! 🍫Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break with your loved ones. 🍫 We look forward to seeing the children back on Tuesday 14th April.

This week in Nursery we have read 'Titch' to finish our Living Things topic. We have talked about the life cycle of a human. In Maths we have looked at predicting patterns, guessing what comes next. Our new phoneme was /c/ and we practised writing it. In the woods we read about snails and then made our own trails. We are sending the sunflowers we planted home, please keep us updated on Tapestry! KS1 had a wonderful time at St. Peters Church Carlton Colville today. We celebrated Easter by singing songs, learning about the Easter story and repeating hymns. The children were role models for our school, walking and behaving beautifully. Well done everyone.

A fabulous week for our Speedwellians. In Literacy we published our narratives based on the story 'Tidy' and began to explore poetry. In Math's we have continued working with money - adding amounts and working out change. We had a wonderful afternoon of DT making our moving vehicles by adding wheels and an axle to a chassis - next week we will be testing and evaluating them! We have loved learning about direction and programming using the Beebots in computing and in gymnastics we combined our shapes, balances and jumps to create a sequence in pairs.

This week in Nursery we read the story 'Lulu loves flowers'. We learnt about the parts of a flower and planted sunflower seeds. In Maths we used 'heavier' and 'lighter' to compare weight. Our new phoneme this week was /o/. In the woods we read 'Slug needs a hug'. We then hugged some trees and talked about how it made us feel. We had a visit from Pakefield Pastures and we got to hold and stroke some animals. Have a lovely weekend Miss Allen, Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Fuller

⏰Attendance⏰ Rose win again - they have won 5 times this year and that means they have won the most times out of all classes. Buttercup, Daisy and Oak all have 4- perhaps one of them will join Rose next week!

Rose Class What a super week! This week for Literacy we have finished our stories and started a new poetry unit. In Maths we have continued calculating money. In Science we classified animals depending on their diet and in Geography we learnt about capital cities of the UK and what the weather is like there. We made our toy vehicles in DT including a wheel and axle mechanism! We enjoyed wacky hair day today thank you for all of the donations for Red Nose Day! One more week to go - have a great weekend 🙂

Another wonderful week in Snowdrop class, we have started our new literacy unit, exploring what is beneath us and prepositional phrases. We have also enjoyed finishing our gymnastics unit with matching and contrasting sequences with our partners. In addition, we have enjoyed developing our techniques within tag football and it is lovely to see the children's confidence within this now. Have a great weekend!

The Primrose class have had an excellent week. They worked hard in DT making their torches, including a working circuit. They had to be resilient as it was much harder than they thought it would be. In PE the children enjoyed learning new skills in tag football and are looking forward to putting all the skills together to play a full game. In English we have been thinking about 'what's beneath our feet' and have started learning about explanation texts. Have a lovely weekend.

What a fabulous and busy week in Elder! In DT, we constructed our cars ready for the next stage using hot glue guns - I was very impressed with how sensible and safe the children were. In Computing, we designed and created our own game using the 'fruit catcher' template. In Library time, we completed the scavenger hunt set up by the librarians. In PE, we practised mirrored and matching movements and applied this to a sequence using the apparatus. Well done for all your hard work this week Elder, one more week until the holidays!

⛱️Playtimes⛱️ We have had some exciting changes to lunchtime. We have our den-building area, sand pit and water area all up and running. It has been great to see the children's creativity - we heard the children's feedback and here is what has been created. What a lovely sunshiney day to be back on the field for. 🌅

We had a great week in Elder last week! In DT, we started preparing to build our cars by measuring, marking and cutting the wood for the frame. In Computing, we continued to look at the variables in existing games in preparation to design our own. In PE, we performed inverted movements on apparatus. In Science, we researched different life cycles of animals and compared them. In Literacy, we have been writing our suspense stories inspired by 'Francis'. Well done for all your hard work Elder!

Sorry for the delay in updating you all . We have had some problems with our pages this week ! Last week in Reception we have read Oliver's Vegetables, and learnt about the lifecycle of a carrot. The children have been planting their own seeds to observe over time. We checked in on our bread experiment, and discovered how different storage conditions affect the growth of mould! In phonics we have continued to review sounds taught this term and have focused on our handwriting. In maths we have explored pattern and pattern rules. The children used a variety of resources to make their own patterns, and to have a go at following ABAB, AAB,ABC and ABB patterns.

Last week has been a very active week in Snowdrop class! We enjoyed our circuits with Richard, thank you to everyone that sponsored the children. We also looked at matching our shapes within gymnastics and in tag football we introduced lots of defensive skills, learning how to run appropriately with the ball. In science, we have looked at various bones and their functions, we even found out the smallest bone is in your ear!

Last week in Nursery we have read the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. We have looked at types of houses and used different materials to build our own. In Phonics we have learnt the phoneme /g/ and in Maths we have compared height using 'shorter' and 'taller'. In the woods we learnt about worms and used spades to find lots! Rose Class - In Literacy, we have been writing our ‘Tidy’ stories and in Maths we have been learning about money. In Science we described and compared the structures of animal body structures. We designed our toy vehicles in DT and in Geography we thought about different winds and how they can affect the weather. For computing this half term, we are enjoying programing the beebots! In PE we practiced barrel rolls and straight rolls in gymnastics and on Tuesday we loved joining in the fitness circuit with athlete Richard Potter.

Before half term Year 4 girls took part in the ALT Football Tournament. The girls showed great spirit and determination finishing in second place! Big well done to Fleur and Daisy who were awarded player of the tournament awards. 🥈⚽

A big well done to the very excited KS1 Skittle ball teams who took part in the ALT tournament this week. Both teams finished second in their leagues. The children all showed great teamwork and sportsmanship. A special mention to Rio for being awarded player of the tournament 🥈🥈

Honeysuckle, have had a very busy week. In Literacy, we started planning our own 'Tidy' stories. We made a puppet of our character and retold our own story to a friend. In maths we have been learning about dividing. We investigated making a wheel and axel mechanism in DT and tested them on a ramp! In the woods, we planned weather reports. We loved dressing up for World book day and enjoyed sharing stories with our adults. Don't forget to wear sports clothes / pe kits on Tuesday for our sponsored fitness circuits!

Another fantastic week in Elder this week! We worked on our rhythm in music and worked as a class to pass a cup around to a beat before creating our own patterns. In Woodlands, we took part in some child led learning where the children chose their activities – ranging from bug hunting to den building. In Literacy, we started developing our own suspense narrative. In Computing, we have been changing and improving variables in the programming of different games. Well done for another brilliant week of hard work, plus an incredible World Book Day with some fabulous costumes.

🌹Rose 🌹 Wow what a busy week! In Maths we have been dividing by sharing and in Literacy we have started to plan our own 'Tidy' stories. We have created our own puppet woodland character and practised retelling the story and we went on a senses walk to help us with our setting description. In DT we experimented making a wheel and axle mechanism and in Computing we followed instructions to give commands to the bee bots. We enjoyed World Book Day - thank your support with that! This week in Reception, the children have been learning all about different foods and thinking about the things they like and dislike. They enjoyed listening to books such as ‘Eat Your Peas’ and ‘Bilal Cooks Daal’, which helped them talk about their own food preferences and hear about foods eaten in other parts of the world. The children also had the chance to taste some foods from different cultures and used a tally chart to show whether they liked or disliked them. This week in Maths, the children have been learning all about the numbers 9 and 10. They used resources such as ten frames, Hungarian frames and Numicon to explore different ways to have each number.
