We have had another great week in Snowdrop class, the children have spoken about letters and the purposes of them, coming up with some lovely ideas as to why letters are sent. We have explored printing within art where we sketched designs inspired by African art. Within computing, the children have been editing images, including ones of themselves and changing various features of them! We have continued line dancing in PE and have developed our confidence in this both in unison and canon, we hope you have a lovely weekend!

Our Speedwellians have had the best day at Thrigby Hall! We shared our scientific knowledge of carnivores, omnivores and herbivores with our parent helpers and loved identifying all the different animals. All the animals came out to say hello - especially the crocodiles! We would like to thank Holly, Paris and Jo who came to help.

Well done to the Year 3 and 4 cricket players, we came second and received a silver medal, the children showed great sportsmanship, cheering not only each other on but other schools too! We were really impressed with how well they tried, a super well done to Jacob who received a medal for being a player of the tournament by impressing the referees, great job everyone!

This week in Reception, the children had an exciting time when the mysterious egg finally hatched, and it was a dragon! They enjoyed listening to dragon stories, designing and drawing their own dragons and explaining what makes them special. The children also learned that dragons are mythical and compared them to real animals such as lizards. In Maths this week, the children explored weight by comparing heavy and light objects they used their hands and balancing scales to feel and see which objects were heavier or lighter. The children made predictions, tested their ideas and learned that bigger objects are not always heavier. The children used new mathematical vocabulary such as ‘heavy’, ‘light’, ‘heavier than’ and ‘lighter than’ while sorting and ordering objects by their weight.

Rose Class had the best time on our trip to Thrigby Hall! The children were wonderfully behaved and we had so much fun! We loved seeing all the animals up close and exploring the tree-top walks, swamp house and much more! Such a fun and memorable adventure for everyone!

It's been wonderful teaching in Willow this week, the children have been working so hard! In Science, we used pig hearts to identify and explore the different parts of the heart to help us to explain it's function. In Geography, we walked round our local area to investigate the different types of houses and the diversity of vehicles we could see. In Computing, we explored using Tinkercad for 3D modelling. In PE, we developed our sprinting techniques and coached each other to improve. Have a lovely weekend Willow, see you on Monday!

This week in Nursery we have read 'Flashing Fire Engines' and discussed the special equipment that firefighters use. In our Small World Area we have been telling our own stories and talking about which number to call if there is a fire. In Phonics we have learnt the phoneme /e/ and practised writing it. ✨Active Athletes ✨Florence has started horse-riding lessons and has received a medal and a rosette for her fabulous work, learning how to trot and doing so with confidence. It is lovely to hear how much she is enjoying being an active athlete, well done Florence!

What a wonderful first week back in Snowdrop class, it has been great to hear about all the things they have done over the break! We have started learning about grouping things by various characteristics and came up with our own ways to do this, we have also looked at African print in which children created their own small piece inspired by this. We did some line dancing for indoor PE and practiced our throwing and catching skills for outdoor PE. Have a lovely weekend.

This week in Nursery we started out new topic 'Getting Around'. This week we looked at boats and explored what floats and sinks. In Maths we compared capacity using full and empty. In our Phonics sessions we learnt the phoneme /k/ and listened to words which rhyme. In the provision we made sea pictures, constructed with Lego and practised writing our names. It has been lovely to see everybody after the Easter holidays and we have enjoyed welcoming some new friends too. Have a great weekend Miss Allen, Mrs McCarthy and Mrs Fuller

It has been a super first week back in Rose Class. In Maths we have been measuring length and height using objects, cm and m. In Literacy, we are reading a new story, gathering all of the facts to write a newspaper report for Peek Zoo about an animal escaping! We've had our first lessons of PE (net and wall games) and Woodlands. In Woodlands we thought about dangers to animals in the wild. In Science we used different tools to explore how animals are suited to different foods. See you all on Monday!

This week in Reception, the children were very excited when a mysterious egg appeared in the classroom. They shared ideas about what might be inside and learned about different animals that lay eggs (oviparous) and those that are born alive (viviparous). The children drew pictures and used their phonic skills to write simple sentences explaining their thinking. They also learned about how babies grow and how we care for them. In Maths this week, the children explored capacity through fun water play. They poured, filled and emptied different containers and talked about which held more or less water. The children learned new words such as ‘full’, ‘empty’, ‘half full’, ‘capacity’ and ‘volume’.

This afternoon 🏆Ruby House🏆 had a fantastic time in the woods with Mrs Kounnas, Miss Fayers and Mrs Moore. They celebrated winning the most amount of house points in Spring 2 and had a ball! The house captains will have a meeting next week to decide what the next House Prize will be for Summer 1 - let's see who wins it!🥳

Our assemblies this term will go through the qualities it takes to demonstrate these behaviours and why they are important for school life and beyond.

🌟 Reception Bowls Club 🌟 Over the last five weeks, our reception children have been busy learning and practising their bowls skills. Today they finished the cub with our very first Bowls Competition, and they played with such confidence and excitement. 🎉 And the winner wasssss… Isabel! 🏆 Well bowled! A big well done to all the children. You have tried so hard, supported your friends and made our bowls club a real highlight each week. 💚✨

🤩Well done to this week’s Actives! 🤩 They’ve all worked incredibly hard and have been fantastic role models within our school community. We are so proud of all the children’s learning across the school this term. It has been especially lovely to see everyone enjoying the school field again after our playtime revolution! The children have been playing creatively, collaboratively, and with much enthusiasm. What a wonderful last week we have had in Snowdrop class, learning all about the Stone, Bronze and Iron age, having an immersive experience on our trip! We have also created our torches that we designed with a functioning circuit, some children even challenged themselves to make a switch using split pins and a paper clip! We have also had a competition within tag football and walked to the Church. Within computing, the children have made their own games and showcased them to each other. We hope you have a lovely Easter break, and we will see you in Summer term 1, Miss Bullard and Mrs Layzell!

Time & Tide fun for Year 3 & 4!

Reception had a fantastic parent share to finish the Spring term! All the children and parents got stuck right into finding all the eggs for the Easter egg hunt. Afterwards, the children really enjoyed exploring the woods with their parents. They enjoyed going to the bear cave, going over the wobbly bridge and (the fan favourite) going down the mud slide!

This week in Nursery we have read 'Titch' to finish our Living Things topic. We have talked about the life cycle of a human. In Maths we have looked at predicting patterns, guessing what comes next. Our new phoneme was /c/ and we practised writing it. In the woods we read about snails and then made our own trails. We are sending the sunflowers we planted home, please keep us updated on Tapestry! KS1 had a wonderful time at St. Peters Church Carlton Colville today. We celebrated Easter by singing songs, learning about the Easter story and repeating hymns. The children were role models for our school, walking and behaving beautifully. Well done everyone.

What a fabulous and busy week in Elder! In DT, we constructed our cars ready for the next stage using hot glue guns - I was very impressed with how sensible and safe the children were. In Computing, we designed and created our own game using the 'fruit catcher' template. In Library time, we completed the scavenger hunt set up by the librarians. In PE, we practised mirrored and matching movements and applied this to a sequence using the apparatus. Well done for all your hard work this week Elder, one more week until the holidays!

The Primrose class have had an excellent week. They worked hard in DT making their torches, including a working circuit. They had to be resilient as it was much harder than they thought it would be. In PE the children enjoyed learning new skills in tag football and are looking forward to putting all the skills together to play a full game. In English we have been thinking about 'what's beneath our feet' and have started learning about explanation texts. Have a lovely weekend.
