This week in Reception, we have been learning all about police officers and how they protect our community and keep us safe. The week began with a mystery; our class pets went MISSING! This sparked lots of discussion about why we should never run away, what to do if we ever get lost and who can help us. Thankfully, a very kind police officer found our pets and returned them. We were lucky enough to welcome a real police officer into school. He showed us the equipment he uses to do his job. This included his radio, baton and even pepper spray. The children really enjoyed watching Mr Cook get put in handcuffs! In Maths, we continued exploring 2D shapes like triangles, squares and rectangles. The children investigated the properties of these shapes and even created their own shapes using sticks. To finish the week, we read ‘The Lost Words’ by Robert Macfarlane and talked about the birds we might see in our woods. The children laid on the floor and looked to the sky to see if we could hear or see any birds. Although we did not spot any birds, we tried to attract them by building a huge, cosy nest!

🌟Speedwell🌟 What a wonderful week! We have crammed so much into 5 days, in Literacy we published our narratives about Katie in London ready to send off to HRH King Charles III we then started our new topic - poetry! We have learned the nursery rhyme London's burning and considered how we could perform it. We have been looking at 2D shapes - their names and properties in maths. In Science we learned about our senses - in particular smell and taste. We had a wonderful time testing our knowledge and our senses in a smell and taste lesson- the children were very resilient trying new things. In PE we have continued with gymnastics - showing that we can balance on apparatus and thinking carefully about how we can do this safely. In History we have earned more about the Great Fire of London which has been super exciting and has has us all enthralled! In Woodlands we explored and collected natural resources ready to create our art work inspired by Walter Mason Another fun filled week next week!

🏆A group of children in Year 6 took part in ALT’s 'School’s Against Racism' event today and they were absolutely fantastic! The day started with a workshop around different inspirational stories, followed by the children creating artwork and writing letters to the FA to raise awareness of racism in sport. We then spent the afternoon playing a friendly football tournament – we were so impressed by how hard the children worked as a team, and the growth they displayed throughout the afternoon was phenomenal! They came 4th overall! Well done Team Grove! You did us proud ❤️

Well done for yet another fantastic week in Elder class. I’ve felt so proud of the children this week with their poetry in Literacy – we performed them all to the class and I was so impressed! We also worked really hard in DT making our prototypes for our Anglo Saxon houses. Great work everyone!

⭐Willow⭐ It has been another fantastic week in Willow. The class researched and produced a poster explaining how various animals have adapted to survive in their habitat. In Literacy, the class performed their narrative poems. In DT, the children produced a prototype of a Saxon house. The role of the female during the Saxon period was explored in History.

Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic afternoon taking part in a Diwali workshop. The children found out more about how Diwali is celebrated and then learnt a dance. The children were amazing, learning and remembering a lot of new dance moves.

🌟ACTIVES🌟 A big well done to this week's Actives! Another week of fantastic achievements, discussions and learning. Keep up the great work everyone ❤️ It was a busy celebration assembly for some of our Pupil Leadership groups too. 🚦The Junior Road Safety Officers handed out their prizes for their 'Design a Road Safety poster' competition 📖 The Librarians handed out their prizes for their 'Design a Library' competition in addition to handing out their Poetry entry prizes earlier in the week It's wonderful to see these young leaders inspiring our pupils - keep your eyes peeled to see which pupil leadership group organises our next event at Grove 👀

Snowdrops have had a lovely week, we have published our explorer narrative and started our new literacy unit where we listened to the story of Howard Carter. We have continued learning about the Egyptians in history and what the River Nile was used for, we have also enjoyed developing our passing skills in PE and talking about strategies that help when we are feeling pressured within PSHE. We have also had lots of fun at a Diwali workshop this afternoon, fully immersing ourselves within the experience, have a lovely weekend!

🌹Rose 🌹 It's Friday again already! In Maths, we have been learning all about 2D shapes. In Literacy we started a new poetry unit and so far we have learnt and performed the poem London's Burning. In Science we tested our senses - taste and smell. We linked shapes together and created a sequence using the equipment in gymnastics. Also, we won a class attendance award so we get to choose some play equipment to put out next week which is exciting! Have a great weekend everyone- see you next week! Austin in Honeysuckle is enjoying our topic on The Great Fire of London so much that last weekend he went on an adventure with his family to London to find out more! Austin stood on the spot of where the Pudding Lane bakery was and climbed the 311 to the top of the Monument! He also went to Trafalgar Square to see the lions we have been reading about in Katie in London. We loved hearing about it all.

This week, Poppy Class worked on their passing and dribbling in P.E; creating Egyptian sarcophagi in DT and used percussion instruments to accompany a song during Music. Oh and we've started practising our Xmas play with the rest of the Y3/4s.

This week in Nursery we have looked at taste. We read the story 'Oliver's Milkshake' and made our own fruit kebabs. In our Maths sessions we have been using positional language to play different games. In the woods we read 'Owl Babies' and looked for feathers. Thank you to everyone who has uploaded to Tapestry. This week in Reception, we have been leaning all about firefighters and the ways they help keep our community safe. We started by exploring fire extinguishers and how they are used to put out fires. The children loved going on a ‘fire extinguisher hunt’ around the school, making a tally chart as they counted (we found 17 in total). They even had fun pretending to be firefighters, using squirty bottles to ‘put out’ candles. The highlight of the week was a special visit from real firefighters and their fire engine! The children were thrilled to climb inside the engine, explore the hoses and ladders and even try on some firefighter gear. In Maths, we have been investigating the properties of circles and triangles through hands on activities. The children discovered that circles have one curved line and learned why circular objects roll. We then explored triangles by talking about angles (where two sides meet). The children used hinges and split pins to experiment with making angles before creating their own triangles. The children learned that triangles can look different but always have three sides and three angles. To finish the week, we read the story ‘Leaf Man’ and talked about the changes we see in autumn. The children went on a leaf hunt, explored different types of leaves, and used them to make beautiful leaf crowns. It was a fantastic week full of learning, creativity, and fun!

Busy, busy, busy in Honeysuckle this week. In Literacy, we have been writing our Katie in London stories. In maths, we compared and ordered numbers. In PE, we made different shapes with our bodies. We went on a senses walk in Science and in History we learnt about Samuel Pepys his diary writing. Have a great weekend everyone!

Another week complete in Rose, it’s been another super busy one! In Maths, we have been comparing and ordering numbers. In Literacy, we have been working so hard writing our narratives of Katie in London. In gymnastics, we practiced shapes and making letters with a partner and in Music we listened to a song and responded to the changing speed of the beat. We went on a senses walk in Science and in DT we practiced joining and strengthening materials. In History we ordered the events of the Great Fire of London. We did end the week on a very sad note saying good-bye to the lovely Marnie – we wish you all the best on your adventures. Have the best weekend Rosey Poseys.

🌟Speedwell🌟 We have had a lovely week! We have begun writing our narrative based on our story Katie in London to send to the King. In Maths we have considered greater than, less than and equal to and ordered numbers from smallest to largest. We were photographers in computing - identifying what makes a good photo. In History we learned about Samuel Pepys and in PE (gymnastics) we created letters using our bodies and worked together to make a word! As always, have a restful weekend! Mrs Ball and Mrs Clarke

Another busy week in Oak class. We started the week with our trip to West Stow which we really enjoyed; we have also enjoyed writing our narrative poems this week; we experimented with different building materials in DT in preparation for building our framed structures and in PE we have put together sequences of symmetrical and asymmetrical balances using apparatus.

We’ve had an excellent week in Elder! In Woodlands, we started thinking about our sculpture trail and collected some resources from our woods. In PSHE, we ran a “podcast” to support people with friendship issues. In PE, we developed different rolls and combined this with our learning of balances to put together a short sequence. In DT, we experimented with making freestanding structures using different materials such as playing cards, cubes, straws, spaghetti and marshmallows. We’ve also been working incredibly hard on our narrative poems in Literacy this week!

⭐Willow⭐ It has been another great week. In RWV, the children researched and compared the beliefs of various faiths. In DT, the children have experimented with different materials to build a structure. The class enjoyed using some of the apparatus to develop their performance in PE.

Snowdrops have had another lovely week, we have continued our narratives on our explorers, looked at teamwork in PSHE, explored the 5 days of Diwali and acted this out. In DT, we have looked at nets and used this to create our own pyramid and this afternoon we have looked at the rock cycle. Have a lovely weekend!

🌟ACTIVES🌟 What a super week of learning! Well done everyone who collected certificates this week. Although, you may notice something slightly strange in the photos... Tommy and Marnie got one of each! There's a special reason why these two did so well in assembly today - they're off to Australia! Their class teachers presented them both with some memory books and wished them the best of luck on their new adventure. Grove will miss you both! 🌏🦘 Have a wonderful weekend everyone ✨

Active Lifestyles 🌟🤸 It was clearly a busy weekend for Grove children! Waveney Gymnastics club held their interclub championships on Sunday and several children competed and even place in their awards! We are so proud of all of you - well done team Grove! ❤️

⏰Attendance⏰ Primrose have won with a 100% - they worked so hard this week to win it, a real team effort everyone well done! Our 12 days of Christmas attendance will be happening again from the 4th December- we've been busy finding some exciting prizes for this!

This week, Poppy Class have added movements to bring poems alive during our Music sessions; investigated the internet to further our learning about routers; wrote narratives in Literacy and held our first Christmas play rehearsal.

This week in Primrose class we have been very busy writing our adventure narratives based on Tadeo Jones. We have been using fronted adverbial phrases and prepositions to make our work even more exciting. In DT we designed a sarcophagus for an Ancient Egyptian, thinking carefully about the colours and patterns that would have been used. In Science this week, we have been finding out how rocks are formed. We found out about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks and we made our own rocks out of sweets.

This week in Nursery we have been learning about hearing. We read the story 'Peace at Last' and listened to the sounds we could hear inside and outside at Nursery. In Maths we used 'more than' and 'fewer than' to compare quantities. In the woods we looked for leaves and talked about what colour they were and why.
